Image licensing
9 05 2005Well how do you like that, while browsing one day I came across the following on www.makro.be
!http://www.peterelst.com/images/makro.jpg!
Notice anything funny there? If not, look closer — these two links might help: www.gettyimages.com and www.zefaimages.com (previously called fotostockdirect).
Its quite sad really, major client and no money to license two images, hire a designer that can work the Photoshop stamp tool or find someone smart enough to figure out that if you register as a user at gettyimages you get non-watermarked preview images.
Not that I have any experience in doing that *honest* ![]()

Yep, pretty sad. I have used the preview images from gettyimages for demos to clients. When the project is a go I purchase - great system really. However, it can be abused.
On the reverse I actually had a client that liked the look I created for them (with images from gettyimages), until I told them that the images would be part of the cost - personal relationship with the client so it was less formal. He then decided that it would be better to take some of their own pictures and asked me to use those instead. It didn’t take much to convince them that the couple a hundred dollars was well worth a professional looking web site.
Hey! Thanks for a good laugh in the morning. I showed to the head of our Graphics Department and he noticed it almost immediately
I also used Getty images but mine are ‘royalty-free’ and also free of charge in the size I downloaded them. They’re on the websitelink with this comment.
If you know where to go, there’s a lot more good stock photo sites out there that are free.
Really sad indeed, they should have asked my little brother (11yo) to use the stamp stool… he would have finished it in 5 minutes.
just one more thing… peter, your blog is not strict xhtml valid conforming W3C. How come? need help? hehe
ugh, very true — W3C can come and give me a hand
Its on my to-do list to fix, as are a few dozen other things :p
