Podcasting in the Flash community

with one comment

I’ve been really into podcasts these last few months — listening to them that is — and its great to see that more and more people in the Flash community are starting to get involved and record their own shows.

There of course is the podcast from the allmighty mothership, hope to hear more from those guys soon. I’m sure they’re all extremely busy with the upcoming Studio 8 release but its not like there’s not much stuff to talk about ;)

If you haven’t checked out the incomparable Eric Dolecki’s podcast be sure to do, its very entertaining and absolutely chockful of useful info. Just downloaded iTunes 5 yesterday, set up his podcast and to my surprise found my name in the description in one of his previous shows. Shame on me, I asked him to talk about runtime data binding and completely missed that show. Had a great time meeting Eric at FlashForward SF earlier this year, wish we had more time to hang out but I’m sure there will be other opportunities in the not too distant future.

That iTunes 5 install forced me to update my QuickTime to version 7 and noticed they’ve now got a recording mode in the pro version that’s just the thing for creating podcasts which is really cool. It even got me thinking of doing my own little show, not quite sure if I’ll have the time and whether I’d do it in English or Dutch but definitely something for me to put on my to-do list.

The hunt for the funniest Out of Office reply

with 2 comments

I think Macromedia’s Doug Benson (hope he doesn’t mind me posting this) just made it to my shortlist of funniest OOO replies I’ve ever gotten.

“I’m out of the office, … In the event of an emergency, try to remain calm and centered, head for the nearest exit or bar, and tell your inner child to stop whimpering.”

Any other favourites?

WP-ShortStat WordPress plugin

with one comment

I recently got word from my good friend (and CMS guru) mattie about a great plugin. This plugin is a really cool addition to those of you running a WordPress blog for getting some visitor stats (including those that read it through your RSS feed) inside the admin panel. Extremely easy to install, just upload and activate it — no further action required which was a pleasant surprise!

Back home in time for Flash 8

without comments

Just got back from my little one month holiday in India and you guessed it, first thing I did was attend the Flash 8 preview event in Brussels with Waldo Smeets and Serge Jespers presenting (I managed to wiggle my way out of speaking, though the guys did actually manage to have me answer one question during the break :p).

I walked away absolutely inspired by the new release and with a couple of cool new goodies for my shwag list (a Macromedia branded logitech webcam and cool watch) — thanks Waldo! Unfortunately forgot to pick up one of those cool new Studio 8 notebooks, so that’s one more thing for my ‘got to get before the merger’ list.

Still catching up with all my email, if you emailed me anything important and don’t get a reply within a day or two feel free to send me a reminder as it might have gotten caught in my all-mighty SPAM filter.
