The ludicracy that is software patents

Its no secret that the US patenting system is somewhat flawed but this just one is just beyond me. Neil Balthaser, former VP of Flash Strategy at Macromedia (“Et tu, Brute”), has been granted a patent covering design and creation of rich-media on the web.

WordPress updated to 2.0.1

If you’re running WordPress its well worth doing the upgrade to 2.0.1! I just did it here this afternoon and it fixes a whole lot of issues I had with 2.0.

Author copies arrived

My author copies for “Object-Oriented ActionScript for Flash 8” have arrived! Its looking pretty good, at least what’s left of it, the wonderful people at DHL were kind enough to leave the package standing outside in the rain.

Google acquires Measure Map

Just got an email by Jeff Veen that Measure Map by Adaptive Path has been acquired by Google. Should be very good news for bloggers, I’m sure we’ll see some great things happening with it.

New Orleans – we care

“what we do in life echoes in eternity”

Inspired by those words Bart Stassen, a regular at our MMUG Belgium, took a week of work, bought himself a plane ticket and flew out to New Orleans to help clean out homes struck by hurricane Katrina.

Flex 2 Beta announced

Flex 2 Beta will be available from the labs.adobe.com site very soon and as you’ve probably heard by now an important licensing change was announced. The Flex 2 SDK, framework and compiler will be *free of charge* — (with the Eclipse based Flex Builder 2 priced at under 1,000 USD).
