Satori’s review of OO AS for Flash 8
17 03 2006Pete from Friends of ED just forwarded me a link to Satori’s review of “Object-Oriented Actionscript for Flash 8“. Its a really great read, have been eager to get feedback from the Flash community on the book ever since it was published.
Describing the book as a practical guide is probably one of the biggest compliments we could get. If I had one goal with the chapters I’ve written is make OOP concepts in ActionScript approachable for the average Flash developer and demystify things like design patterns.
Obviously couldn’t have done it without the fantastic work of co-authors Todd Yard, Sas Jacobs and Bill Drol!

You know, I read your blog post today and decided to go ahead and buy your book. I have been doing some medium OOP programming already and I tend to use Mook’s Essential ActionScript 2.0, however I am already half way through your book and I REALLY appreciate the work put into it. I would highly recommend it to everyone to have on their bookshelf.
I am just finishing the chapter “An OOP Media Player”. In fact, I am going to start using an IntervalManager from now on. I can’t believe I never bothered writing one of those before.
ANyway, fantastic work.
Finished the book over the weekend. I really appreciate the process of walking through building a component structure.
I would love to see you all write a more advanced book that covers great ideas when approaching the most common problems Actionscript developers face. Similar to the interval manager, maybe a loading queue manager (with priority), etc…
Great new stylesheet! I like it.
Hi,
Great book, its got a very concise style. But is there an errata and popular forum for the book? I’ve used the friends of ed forums but there don’t seem to be much traffic.
I’ve just replied to that thread in the Friends of ED forum — feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
