Adobe has decided not to release the next Flash Player as version 8.5 but bring it in line with the Flash IDE numbering, meaning it will be Flash Player 9.
Given the huge amount of new features and a completely new virtual machine for handling AS3 this is definitely more than simply a dot release. Good move!
