Flex vs Flash

There’s been a lot of talk about Flex versus Flash and the ability to integrate Flash content into your Flex applications. To be honest its always been a bit of a pain to get that all working seamlessly until I saw the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3 demo’d just now.

Its basically an extension that lets you package up a Flash movie clip as an SWC for use in Flex, complete with code-hinting, states, transitions, custom events etc. You won’t believe it until you see it — the improvement in workflow is just tremendous, its now easy to get that creative look from Flash over to Flex and you’ll save hours implementing it.

Be sure to check out labs.adobe.com early next week!

    Hi Peter,
Wondering if there’s any plans to be able to make components in Flex and put them in Flash?

    Hi Peter,

can you still view the demo somewhere?

I don’t believe the demo is public as of yet but all info should be on labs by Monday if I’m well informed.

    Michael,

Flex component integration into Flash CS3 is 99% doubtful, since Flash doesn’t have access to the Flex framework. Flash includes its own lightweight component set, which tries to mirror some of the API, but don’t have any data services binding.

Peter, I just picked up your book Object-Oriented Actionscript for F8 two weeks ago and albeit, it’s a year since it came out and I’m a little late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I think your book is excellent.
This is, for me, the first time that someone actually took a step back from the code and as the main topic and focus on how to conceptualize and organize code.

    THANK YOU
