Bruce Eckel on Creating Flex Components

September 5th, 2007

I can’t believe how fast things have changed in just a few years — we’re now seeing the Java community discover and embrace ActionScript 3.0 and MXML as Flex becomes the platform of choice for deploying web applications. Of course Livecycle Data Services (formerly known as Flex Data Services) play an important role in this and allow tight integration with J2EE backend.

None other than Bruce Eckel has been on the forefront of promoting Flex to the Java and C++ audience. I was happy to see he’s recently written an article on creating Flex components, and one of the most approachable and easy to understand ones at that. If you have limited experience with MXML or ActionScript 3.0 and want to get into creating Flex components this is the article for you!

That’s really exiting news! Allthough I’m not sure whether ex-Flash developers should welcome or be afraid of the Java community moving to Flex. Anyway, if some truth lies in the stereotype of a Java developer, then ex-Flash programmers ought to be better at creating usable interfaces ;-)
